hawaii 2012
we just returned from a wonderful week in hawaii. we left sully at home (i thought he wouldnt enjoy the sand and sun quite yet) and headed off to maui.
i was practically jumping out of my seat with excitement when i saw the sun as we landed.
my mom had found this amazing condo on kaanapali north beach. it was fabulous. even the coat closet made a great bedroom for grace! (just so no one calls cps, grace chose to stay in there :) )
the first day, we played at the pool, tried to get used to the sun, and enjoyed pina coladas.
the next morning, we woke up and walked down to black rock. we snorkeled and played in the sand.
snorkeling.
tagg and craig loved making super big holes in the sand. i was very worried that after we left, someone would break a leg after falling in!
tagg's own little pool.
that night, we drove over to d.t. fleming beach to watch the waves.
the next day, we headed north to the olivine pools. last time i was in hawaii, i was six months pregnant with sully and when we made the hike down to these pools i broke my toe. so i was reluctant to go back this time but i am glad we did. david and eli loved swimming in the pools.
tagg and craig at the olivine pools.
afterwards, we made the treacherous drive over to julia's banana bread. the drive is NOT for the faint of heart. a skiiiiiinny one lane road. through the mountains. high above the ocean. with no guard rails. but the banana bread and passionfruit butter was worth it!
that night, we got cleaned up and went out to dinner. grilled pineapple pulled pork sandwiches. very delicious.
then we came back for our nightly ritual of watching downton.
tagg liked the beach but LOVED the pool. so we spent most mornings playing in the waterfalls and waterslide at the condo.
megan had had enough sun on her face apparently.
when i could convince tagg to get sandy, we played in the sand and looked for shells.
that night, we got dressed up, left the kids at home, and drove over to mama's fish house. this place is like an adult's disneyland. the setting is unbelievable and the food is fantastic.
our appetizers.
megan's dessert. dont worry, she shared. oh wait. nope, she didnt.
me and craig.
the the next day, the weather was gorgeous! this is the view from our condo's balcony.
poolside.
tagg was quite the daredevil. he went down the slide a million times all by himself. and towards the end of the week, he did it even without his floats.
after working so hard, tagg usually needed some down time in the afternoon. wow.
for lunch, craig found this authentic mexican place. their fish tacos were so good.
that night, we took tagg the old banyan tree in lahaina. he loved climbing it.
it was hard to get him to come down!
later that night, we left the kids at home and went for dessert.
the next day was easter sunday. we enjoyed the sweet sacrament meeting at the local ward.
later, we made easter dinner.
the next day, we drove over to my favorite part of the island. we stopped for some ice cream on the way.
we hiked out to what seemed like the edge of the world. i LOVED it.
the lava had formed this amazing blowhole.
when we couldnt walk anymore, we found a secluded little beach and started looking for shells and creatures. tagg was in heaven.
tagg spotted this little crab. can you?
then we snorkeled. which is my absolute favorite thing to do. and as we were there, a native drove by and told us that we had found the best place on the island for snorkeling. yes! validation. and from a native. thats huge.
tagg found his own little native.
as we left that beautiful part of the island, we stopped by secret beach. it really is amazing.
that night, we walked over to whalers village and enjoyed the sunset.
enjoyed the sunset a little too much. ha! eeeeewwwww.
the next day was more sun and beach.
me and tagg.
on our last evening in hawaii, we walked down to the beach to watch the sun set. i was so happy we could share the trip with my parents.
the sunset.
tagg was very fun in hawaii. we had such a special week.
